Nomination for Smith College Athlete of the Week:  September 18, 2005

Seiko Fujii, sophomore; number 3 singles player; Smith tennis (Aichi, JAPAN)

Seiko Fujii has taken seriously the fact that tennis is a game of errors and the player making the fewest errors will have the best opportunity to win a match.  Seiko started the week by defeating Shannon Desroches from Springfield College 6-0, 6-0 in conference play Tuesday, Sept 13.  Saturday, September 17 Seiko returned to her home courts to defeat Francesca Russo, a former all-conference player from Babson.  Seiko maintained her patience, consistency and focus as she set her goal to get to every ball.  She won her match 6-4, 6-3 making very few unforced errors and frustrating the veteran opponent.  Seiko is currently 2-1 in the NEWMAC conference and 2-2 in her singles play overall.
